Effective and Successful Job Search Strategies and Techniques

Posted on August 28, 2019 by Aaron

Searching for a job can be the most frustrating thing ever! You’ve probably handed over copies of your resumes to so many companies but haven’t had a reply yet from any of them. Don’t worry. It’s not too late. There are several things you can do to increase your chances of getting hired. Well, not just hired… but hired by your dream company!

Tap Into Your Network

Networking remains to be one of the biggest approaches to finding job opportunities. Connect with everyone you know – past and present colleagues. You never know who may be able to help you with your job search. Referral accounts for one-third of all external hires. That is why it’s important to grow and maintain your network. If one of your contacts happen to be a hiring manager for a role you are targeting and you’ve developed your relationship with that person, they will be more than happy to vouch for you.

Use Social Media

You probably use social media for news and entertainment. But did you know you can use it to find a job too? Social media is an excellent platform where you can introduce yourself to potential employers. In fact, research shows that 73% of companies use it to successfully recruit and hire a candidate. Make sure you have an account on LinkedIn to network with other professionals and recruiters. Other platforms, like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram allow you to showcase your expertise as well as your personality to potential employers.

Make Sure You Have the Right Skills

Your best weapon to succeed in any job application is your skills and experience. Companies are getting more selective because there are a lot of great talents out there. You want to be competitive by investing in yourself. Undergo training and education. It’s going to cost you money but it’s the easiest way to build your portfolio. You can apply for scholarships, grants, or a cash advance online to finance studies. Additionally, consider obtaining on-the-job training (OJT) and internships if you are a fresh graduate and looking for experience.

Create a Resume that Rocks

Did you know that more than half of candidates are eliminated from online job search because of poorly crafted resumes? If you’re using job application websites, it’s not enough that your resume highlights your skills and experience. You should also make sure that your resume includes keywords which were listed in the requirements of a job. Companies make use of Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) to eliminate resumes that don’t match up with their job descriptions.

Be Selective with Your Job Applications

To increase your chances of getting hired, you want to ensure that your applying to roles that match your skills and experience. Quality over quantity, so they say. It is better to send just a few applications than to reach out to so many companies without really having a good chance of getting noticed. Look for sites that most companies use to recruit or hire people.

There you go – some really helpful tips to help you find your dream job.

Good luck!
