Appreciate Your Employees: 4 Tips for Keeping Your Office Environment Safe

Posted on April 1, 2019 by Aaron

There’s one thing that smart business leaders have discovered that others haven’t. The lesson is that if you want to make more money, you have to appreciate your employees. And no, this doesn’t involve their salaries. If you want your employees to be truly happy with their work, you have to create the perfect environment for them. Below are some tips that you can use to keep the office environment safe and conducive:

Lighting

One of the most important things in the office is the lighting. Since most of your employees spend a lot of time staring at the desktop or laptop screens, there has to be proper lighting to make sure that they don’t strain themselves. Call a commercial electrician to help you store more lights on the stairways. In most cases, the staircase areas tend to be quite dark because they are ignored. Don’t do this because you never know when an employee might be required to go there. Ensure that the place is always lit to avoid falls.

The Type of Shoes

Make sure that employees wear the right kind of shoes whenever they are in the office. They should wear comfortable shoes that don’t interrupt others when they are walking. Noise pollution can be quite annoying. If your employees work with chemicals, make sure that they wear closed shoes so that harmful liquids don’t drip on them.

Ergonomic Furniture

Another way that you can improve safety in the work environment is by buying the right kind of furniture for the office. Make sure that your employees sit on chairs with back support to prevent pain that comes as a result of extended sitting hours. Alternatively, you can create a space with standing desks that will allow them to get rid of monotony caused by too much sitting. You can also have bean bag chairs at the lounge area. Having comfortable furniture in the office prevents employee injury.

Hygiene

You should also make sure that the office area is clean to prevent pest infestations. Get the janitor to clean the office area every morning before most people enter the office. Make sure that there are signs to warn people if the floor is slippery. Furthermore, toilet areas should also be cleaned every day. A clean office is somewhere anyone would love to work in, so don’t compromise.

Use the 4 mentioned tips to keep the office environment safe. Other ways that you can use to appreciate the employees is complementing them for a job well done and giving them more responsibilities.

Hi Aaron, thank you for bringing up such an important topic on the appreciation of the employee. The truth is, apart from paying salary or wages, appreciation spurn them to do more. At the end of the day, the employer gains more when he does more appreciation. Also, your points on keeping the working environment safe are on point.

Thanks Aaron for the great article. One other thing to keep in mind is reducing excessive brightness either from outdoor sunlight or intense indoor lighting. An office setting can often be intensely bright, causing unnecessary glare on the screen, employee eyestrain and headaches. Some suggestions that may help with excessive brightness are:

    1) Removing the middle bulb of a four bulb light fixture
    2) Closing the drapes, shades, or blinds, especially those that are directly in front or behind a computer.
    3) Position the monitor so that windows are to the side (perpendicular to the screen), instead of in front or behind the computer.

I definitely agree that the working environment should always be clean and disinfected to avoid pest infestations. Aside from pests, keeping the surfaces sanitized at all times can also prevent the spread of the coronavirus. I hope that every commercial establishment would hire disinfecting services for their offices at least once a month for the sake of their own employees.
