4 Ways to Give Your Employee More Means of Improving Their Job

Posted on October 2, 2020 by Aaron

The goal of better employee performance is only attainable when you give your staff the tools to better themselves. Not only will they be more creative and more productive, but they will also be happier when they are able to expand their skillsets and become more qualified to advance in the organization. These four options are great ways to make that happen.

Utilize Online Options

Since the COVID-19 outbreak, countless employers have rushed to find quality online options for helping their employees develop their job skills. Tracking down these resources is a great way to provide effective education on a flexible schedule, giving employees the chance to learn anytime–and anywhere. You can post your own presentations on a new HR policy or facilitate virtual meetup to discuss SEO with your marketing department. Whatever your needs, you can use some type of online platform to meet them.

Develop Plans from Their Perspective

The most important thing you can do to improve employee performance is simply to listen. Whether it’s a casual conversation in the corridor or a formal survey of everyone on the staff, the process of gathering information on what inspires, motivates, frustrates, and confuses your employees is always helpful. Just make sure to follow through and implement their recommendations, and if you can’t, give a valid reason why.

Create Tangible Results

Most of your employees probably have a long list of training sessions that they have completed since coming on board, but do they have anything to recognize their efforts? Many courses carry their own credentials or certifications, but others are islands that never connect to anything else. If your educational opportunities don’t connect to others, consider building a curriculum that will lead to in-house recognition. This provides goals that employees can pursue and will encourage them to complete more.

Help with College Tuition

When the bottom line is tight, an option like this may not be practical for every company. However, a competitive job market will always spur employers to offer such incentives as a means of drawing in and retaining the best employees. Even if you can’t foot the full bill of a bachelor’s degree, anything you can offer will provide a little motivation for employees to learn more–without your having to develop the curriculum yourself.

No matter what investments you’ve made in buildings or equipment, your greatest resource will always be your people. They have more capacity to expand their skills than any other asset you have. Create ways for them to do that, and you’ll see real results on the bottom line.
