Employee and Consumer Safety with Security Seals: Medical, Aerospace and Food Service

Posted on February 13, 2017 by Aaron

Security seals are used to ensure shipping containers are kept tightly closed while being transported to their destination. They’re also used in various industries for both worker and consumer safety, which is always a common concern within human resources. In some cases, they’re even used to prevent the release of hazardous waste. Depending on the industry, there are different reasons seals are utilized, as well as different ways. If you’re a part of these industries or supply goods for these industries, it’s important to be knowledgeable about security seals.

Medical:

Security is a priority when it comes to healthcare and security seals are definitely a part of this security. For both sanitation and safety reasons, the items found in pharmacies and hospitals need the proper protection. It’s in the best interest for workers and patients that drug and utensil cabinets are locked with a tamper evident seal. This way, there’s no second guessing if these items have been in the wrong hands or not.

They’re also used on medication carts to have full control over each cart’s contents. While still accountable for the items being used and the medicines being given, workers have a convenient way to efficiently record the volume of contents throughout the course of a shift.

Aerospace:

Flight attendants have similar circumstances when it comes to carts and their contents. Security seals prevent the tampering of the food and drinks being served. The same goes for the emergency equipment onboard, such as first aid kits and life jackets.

Then there’s the luggage. Being that it goes from the passenger to security to the undercarriage and back out to the baggage claim, security seals are put into place so that luggage and transported goods aren’t touched. Seals act as both preventative measure and to ensure passengers that their belongings are in good hands and can trust the airline.

Food:

Regulations within the food industry have been altered in the past for safety purposes. Certain products are required to have seals in order to indicate tampering. This is not only better for consumers, it’s better for everyone who has their hands in the distribution process. Let’s take a restaurant for example. Whether they have product coming in from dairy, fruit or meat distributors, it’s important that everything is being shipped with tamper-evident security.

This way, workers can have the peace of mind that they’re serving food that hasn’t been contaminated, exposed to air or insects, or has been at risk for malicious intent. Still, all workers should be trained to notice any health issues.

These three industries slightly overlap with one another when it comes to their need for seals. Other industries include banking, law enforcement and more. Whether delivered by truck, train or boat, these seals are also convenient for the staff in the ports and warehouses the containers are delivered to.

Workplace injuries and accidents can be easily prevented only if employers and workers stay vigilant about maintaining compliance with safety regulations. American Casting & Manufacturing conforms to the highest standards, meeting the requirements of ISO-9001:2008 quality management systems.
