Cutting Down Winter Costs: 4 Energy Savers For Every Business

Posted on February 3, 2017 by Aaron

Saving money on costs has always been one of the top priorities of any business run or owned by someone with common sense. Unfortunately, when the winter season rolls in, offices get chilly and different facilities and warehouses get cold and musty, and the need for extra energy to heat them for acceptable working conditions arises, which means the utility bill will rise too. It is always important to save money and conserve energy throughout the year, especially during the winter season. Here are four ways to save energy and cut down costs during the winter season.

Professionally Service The System

A dirty, poorly maintained HVAC system has to work harder to heat the building to the desired temperature, which increases energy costs. Servicing it at the start of each winter will prolong its functions and abilities. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, dirt in HVAC components, air filters, and ducts and on coils are the leading causes of poor function and system failure.
Run Equipment During Off-Peak Hours

This technique has the potential to save your business a lot of money. Try and schedule big tasks known for sucking energy for off-peak hours. Off-peak hours are when prices for kilowatt usage are lower. This saves money on the utility bill, and it is also easier on the power grid because other businesses and homes are not drawing energy.
Upgrade Appliances and Electronics

Most businesses take the time to replace outdated and sometimes broken appliances at the end of the year for a fresh start to the New Year. When you go out to replace supplies and equipment for the next year, upgrade to ENERGY STAR products because they are considered to be products of superior energy efficiency.
Reflective Optimizing Insulation

Reflective optimizing insulation is superior to fiberglass and other forms of insulation for small businesses and homes, according to Parsons Construction Group. The main benefit to this type of insulation is how useful it is during both winter and summer. It is designed to keep cold air out during the winter, and it also keeps hot air out during the summer, which cuts down on maintenance costs. There is no need to have fresh insulation put in at the start of every winter, and when it gets hot outside, it will keep the business cooler too.

Winter is an expensive time of year for businesses, especially if you live in a cold climate. The four tips above were just four of many, so you need to do plenty of research. Fortunately, those four tips are a great way to put a dent in the utility bill because they are synergistic.
