Private employers with at least 15 employees must grant a maximum of 10 consecutive weeks of family and medical leave in any two-year period. This leave may be used for the birth or adoption of a child under age 16 and for an employees serious health condition including pregnancy disability and recovery from childbirth.
Also covered under Maine Pregnancy Laws are state employees who are entitled to one year of parental leave. Maine state agencies and departments with 25 or more employees provide up to 10 consecutive weeks of family and medical leave in any two-year period for the birth or adoption of a child under age 16, as is the case with private employers. The worker may also get family/medical leave for an employees serious health condition, including pregnancy disability and recovery from childbirth.
