AL - Alabama Human Resource Labor Laws

Below is a list of employment laws we monitor and provide for Alabama.

Example law for this state:

Child Support

Alabama has a provision for withholding child support directly from the earnings of the parent who has been ordered to provide support. Withheld support is sent to the state agency authorized to receive and disburse payments and once verified, sent to the custodial parent. Child support payments can be taken directly out of paychecks, unemployment and workers compensation, and retirement checks. State law requires that all child support orders include withholding orders. In those cases where income withholding orders are not implemented immediately, withholding can be started if the parents payments fall 30 days behind or the total of one months obligation. The state of Alabama collects and distributes child support payments using a system called the Alabama Location Enforcement Collection System (ALECS). Payments are received at the Alabama Child Support Payment Center and entered into a computer system. They are then distributed to the payee. Monthly statements are prepared for non-custodial parents who have not opted to use the income withholding method of payment. If a non-custodial parent has more than one family that qualifies for child support payments, the funds will be distributed on a pro rata basis among each family due support.
